Junior Staff Positions

Red Pine Camp was established in 1925 as a summer camp for families. Since that time, it has grown into one of Canada’s most well-known and well-respected family camps. Red Pine is situated in the largest grove of Red Pine trees in North America on the shores of beautiful Golden Lake.

During the camping period, (July 1st to Labour Day) about 2,900 campers of all ages attend Red Pine each summer.

Each summer the camp employs 54 Junior staff ages 16 and 17 to work in the following positions, Lifeguards, Waiters & Waitresses, Junior Program, Tuck shop, Property and Dishwashing. We look for people who demonstrate enthusiasm, character, stability and warmth. They will work under the supervision of the Senior Staff member for each department and help in the overall operation of the camp programs and act as role models for future staff who are in the camps Leadership program(L.I.T).

All junior staff must have reached their 16th birthday by July 1st and not be over 17 by July 1st.

All junior staff require current First Aid and CPR. Bronze Medallion is strongly recommended for all junior staff members.

Waterfront: Twelve (12) Lifeguards are required on waterfront and will be under the supervision of the Waterfront Director or his/her assistants: The minimum qualifications for Lifeguards is the National Lifesaving Certificate (NLS).Lifeguarding experience at a pool or waterfront facility. Lifeguards will also be required to teach swimming for the swimming program each morning. Boating experience and skills are an asset. Ontario Boating Certification is mandatory for all candidates wishing to be boat drivers and recommended for all others.

Dining Hall: Seventeen (17) Wait staff are required for the dining hall for table setup, to serve food to the tables each meal and carry the dirty dishes back to the kitchen for washing. As the Wait staff are required to teach swimming as well the minimum requirements for this position is Bronze Medallion. Aqua-leaders or LSS Instructors certificates are desirable. The wait staff are responsible to the Dining Hall Host or Hostess and his/her assistant.

Dishwashing: Seven (7) dishwashers are required and, under the supervision of the Head of Dishwashing, ensure all dishes, cutlery, pots and pans are clean, health and safety standards are rigorously applied in the dishwashing area and that proper cleaning procedures and practices are in place.

Junior Program: Ten (10) JP staff are required to plan, organize and supervise morning junior program, working with as many as 150 children each day. Planning weekly themes, special events and skits with each group is also part of the job. As well, junior program staff, organize and present a weekly Folklore night, take a shift in the Tuck Shop and set tables at lunch. The minimum requirements for Junior Program staff are a current First Aid course, Bronze Medallion, Babysitting course certificate and experience working with children. Experience with low ropes course is an asset. You will be expected to implement one of the following programs for 5 days each week: crafts, outdoor education activities, sports clinics or music / dance / drama groups.

Tuck Shop: Three (3) staff are required in the Tuck Shop and under the supervision of the Tuck Shop Manager or his or her senior assistant, will be serving campers, stocking shelves and handling food stuffs. The Tuck Shop is an important hub of camp life. Therefore; the staff must maintain the cleanliness of the shop, be properly dressed and ensure that service is prompt and efficient and that campers feel well served. Tuck Shop staff will also be required to work in the junior program area each morning.

Property: Five (5) prop staff are required to assist the Head of Property to ensure that the camp is clean, safe, well maintained, all repairs are in order, and workshop health and safety regulations are met. Assets for this job include hands on working knowledge of hand tools as well as power tools, building procedures, maintenance, cleaning and gardening. Safety boots are required for this position which are supplied by the camp.

General:
Other qualifications that are considered an asset are First Aid training, CPR, babysitting certificates, leadership training courses, playing a musical instrument and involvement in sports. If you sing, dance or act in school plays, we would like to know as well.

Junior staff are required to work 6 days per week (approximately 40 hrs.) with 1day off. Meals and accommodation are provided. Staff are housed in staff cabins of 10-12 per cabin. Camp protocol, rules and regulations, discipline and curfews are under the supervision of the camp co-ordinator, the assistant co-ordinator and the senior staff.

Smoking Policy:
Red Pine Camp has also joined other summer camps in Ontario to ban smoking among all staff.

Junior staff must be availible from pre-camp June 23rd to August 28th and Labour Day Weekend.
