Summer Camp Directors

Red Pine Camp is calling for a Summer Camp Director team to oversee the operations of the camp during the 2023 summer season.

 

Reporting to the Executive Director (ECD), the Summer Camp Director manages a team of 14 Senior Staff, who, in turn, manage 55 Junior Staff. The Camp Director, in partnership with an Assistant or a second Camp Director, works closely with the Camp Nurse and Red Pine’s year-round employees including our ECD, Business Manager, and Property Manager.

 

Red Pine has a tremendously loyal and vibrant camper community which is a cornerstone of the success of Red Pine. Working in partnership, the Summer Camp Directors are the face of camp to the 2,300 campers that attend Red Pine each season. It is the role of the Camp Directors to be fully ‘present’ in the daily functioning of camp, and to live and showcase the Red Pine values. The Camp Directors must also set, and maintain, a consistent and positive tone for all staff, and create a work environment for camp staff wherein they can grow personally and gain valuable experience from working as part of a team.

 

This is a demanding role requiring maturity, leadership, enthusiasm, adaptability, physical and mental endurance, and a willingness to both learn about and appreciate the long-standing traditions that underpin the camper experience at Red Pine.

Summer Camp Nurse

The Summer Camp Nurse is a new position at Red Pine Camp.  The Camp Nurse is responsible for the care of our staff and campers during the summer.  They also provide staff training, support and oversee the administration of medications and organize paperwork and maintain health files appropriately.

 

The nurse will provide their own personal insurance coverage and a background working with teenagers would be an asset.  A large part of the role is responsibility for the physical and mental health and wellness of our staff.  The nurse would also adhere to the Red Pine Camp mission statement and objectives.  Further job description details may be found through the below link.

 

The Summer Camp Nurse’s formal contract period at Red Pine Camp extends from Mid-June through Labour Day weekend with a break before Labour Day weekend.

Senior Staff

Red Pine hires 14 Senior Staff aged 19 or over who possess; strong character, stability, independence and warmth to help oversee operations as well as a responsible disposition and the ability to work well as a member of a team.  

Red Pine Senior Staff must model the camp’s values and act as supervisors, mentors and role models to the junior staff of 56 teenagers, aged 16 and 17. 

Senior Staff report directly to the Camp Directors and oversee the leadership of Junior Staff, delivery of camp programs, and camp operations related to their specific departments as well as providing excellent customer service to the 2200+ campers who attend camp each summer.

 

The Job

Job Dates for Senior Staff: Office Senior starts in Ottawa on Wednesday, May 1 and all other Seniors start at camp on Saturday, May 11 until Labour Day Monday.  

The expectation is that you will be able to work Labour Day weekend.  It is possible for exceptions to be made depending on the department and situation.

Mid May until Mid June – RPC Work Crew and Department Preparation = This month is a mix of cleaning and repairing so that we may open the facility for our June rentals and camping season.  The mix of time is approximately 50/50 between work crew and department preparation depending on efficiency and attention to detail.

Salary for the summer is approximately $8,500.00

Junior Staff

Each summer Red Pine Camp (RPC) employs fifty-five (55) Junior Staff aged 16 and 17 to work in the various departments around Camp. We look for people who demonstrate strong leadership, have a positive outlook, maturity, enthusiasm and respect. As a member of Junior Staff you are responsible for the delivery of camp programs, services and operations.  Customer service must be center in all that you do, ensuring that campers have a great experience at camp.

 

All applicants must complete an online application form and send two (2) Reference Forms which are to be received on or before the end of February to complete your application package.

Leadership Camp Staff (RPLC)

Apply today and encourage a friend to join you!  Application Deadline February 29, 2024.

 

RPLC is a one week leadership camp for teens entering grades 7-11 and takes place the last week of the summer before Labour Day weekend. We are looking for staff who have been involved in leadership experiences in their school and/or community organizations. This could include, but is not limited to student leadership, student council, athletic council, sports teams, school clubs and organizations, youth group, Guiding or Scouts organizations, camp, LIT or CIT programs, 4H etc. Staff must be aged 17+ at the start of camp.

 

To apply please complete the appropriate Staff Application form and follow the instructions provided. All applicants are required to submit two letters of reference.

 

Private Rental Staff

Red Pine Camp Private Rental staff work during the month of September. Full time and part-time/weekend only positions are available. Depending on the role, private rental staff work in various ways to ensure our guests have a wonderful and safe experience while staying at Red Pine Camp including running the Dining Hall and dishwashing.

Volunteer at Camp

Volunteering is an amazing way to give back to the camping community that you love!!

 

Generations of Red Pine campers have benefited from the hard work and ideas of countless volunteers. Now, more than ever, we are in need of volunteers. An aging property, expanded service lines and changes in regulatory requirements have resulted in a lengthy list of projects, large and small.

Mark your calendars! Plan on participating in RPC’s work weekends. For campers new and old, work weekends involve some elbow grease, but also offer a great opportunity to renew or make new acquaintances.
